So am I wrong in looking at players hitting the portal as simply looking to get an understanding of their fair market value? It seems to me that every star payer should do this and then make the decision best for them. Am I missing something? Are they actually 'departing' or just putting themselves on the market?

Good questions JLD. I'm glad that the kids have the same opportunity to better themselves as coaches do. Why should they have to stick with a new coach coming into their school unless they want him/her as their coach.

Yesterday's "presidential" edict from Washington would limit the kids to one transfer in five years, I believe. (we'll see how that makes out with the lawsuits)

Bet coaches won't have the same restrictions. If coaches were treated same as the kids, our new coach would not have been able to change to Providence because he hasn't been in Florida five years has he?

I feel badly for the portal entrants who will not get picked up by another college and then not welcomed back to their old school. Kevin do you know what the percentage of those left out after it all shakes out? So much for Student/ Athletes. More like mercenaries. Coaches and kids.

That's why we should be thankful for the Ryan Mela's of the world.

Michael, I would only add coaches, for the most part, have buyouts attached to them, per their contract.

As for the players, my suggestion is level the playiing field, institute a hard salary cap, so each school has the same amount of NIL $$ available.

Jamier will be missed. Could it be St John’s or UConn ? Oh that would hurt.

Something needs to be done about one and done. I hate it. There needs to be a new law that says you have to stay with the same college for a lease two years. Going to miss JJ exciting player that’s going to be a star
