Lack of Execution Dooms Providence at Creighton

After an encouraging home stand saw Providence even its conference record at 3-3, the Friars took a step back in Omaha on Tuesday night, falling, 84-64, to Creighton.

Providence likely wasn’t going to win a game in which it gave up 32 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc, or surrendered 14 made threes.

It was simply too easy for Creighton offensively on Tuesday, and when PC’s point guards combined to shoot 3-19 from the field you had a recipe for disaster.

Creighton’s veterans were simply too much for the Friars in this one. Fifth-year center Ryan Kalkbrenner had six blocks to go along with his 20 points, ten rebounds, and three assists, while Steven Ashworth’s final numbers (20 points, 8-19 shooting, six assists, three rebounds, five turnovers) almost undersell his impact on this game.

“Good shooting teams aren’t going to have bad shooting nights often. We wanted to limit their attempts. We didn’t, and we got what we deserved,” Kim English said following the loss.
