Yes a total, positive blind side! I am incredibly impressed with the Hodgson momentum! LG Friars!

Wow what a shocker. Absolutely love the signing. Mack brings leadership to the team. I can’t wait for the season to start.

I love the kid but have mixed feelings about him coming from an in conference team. We didn't like Pitino "poaching" Hopkins. Wish the kids could just move on to a new team without the baggage of having to come back and be harassed by "fans".

Cooley's move in conference is different...he's an adult. Hopefully those in attendance will just concentrate on encouraging our team and let the other team play. Look what happened with St John's this year. In my opinion it was an ugly incident that got uglier when our ejected player left the court as a hero. Those who cheered made me sick. Coach English should have sent him directly to the locker room and not wait for the refs to do his job for him . And I liked Kim. Just venting as a 78 year old PC grad who had season tickets for 20 years ('86-"06) and just enjoys basketball.

I'm sorry the direction the Portal has taken the sport.

I’ve been thinking.. what a rollercoaster ride we’ve been on as a group - the Friar faithful, eagerly anticipating an ashes to skyscraper rebuild a la team Hodgson. Fans in every sense, witnessing a revival, with our new staff molding a roster that certainly looks like it’ll be a very competitive team on paper. Only what, three more spots on the roster to fill? It’s been a whirlwind, and poaching a quality kid from good old Ed’s squad is so cool in every sense of the word. Getting ready to see the drama of playing Creighton unfold with Oswin & Enis suiting up as the enemy vs our beloved fan base & the old coach. The anticipation of seeing just how far this team can ascend pains me, but we’re all hoping that it’ll be worth the wait! GO FRIARS 🏀

Not sure what to make of any of this. On one hand, glad the roster has been built with some nice pieces and that we should be competitive this year coming up. Curious to see if the new coach has spent his money wisely and bought size, length and talent in the back court/wings instead of overspending on bigs like much of the market. Because I think our bigs are...decidedly mid.

But on the other hand--this new dynamic isn't all that appealing to me. Everyone is new except for Mela, and most of them are seniors, so next year this is going to happen all over again. At some point in the future, I could see myself caring less about a revolving door of mercenaries that take the court for PC and finding other forms of entertainment to tune into. I don't feel the same connection that I did in the past. Perhaps that will change once the season gets underway, but not sure. Even as recently as last year we had Floyd, Daniels, Barron, Mela, Oswin--that's five--and Harrell and Jones felt like family when the season because of the recruitment process. This new approach hits different.

Also, some things that I saw in the last two weeks that I wish I didn't:

*Powell and the gun story. Good riddance.

*Picture of Jamier Jones with the Louis Vuitton bags in the Missouri locker room. Didn't realize how shallow he was.

*Watching Oswin go to Creighton and not growing and finishing his career here.

*Malik Mack coming as our PG from Georgetown. And not because I don't like him as a player--I always have, and I think he's a nice fit, rotationally. But if we are at the point that inter-conference transfers between rivals are routine....I just dunno. Not that interesting to me.

I can envision an alternate reality where we have Davis, Harrell, Jones, Mela, Rich Baron, Vaaks, Oswin, Bonke, Pinnis all returning, mix in some incoming freshman, and a transfer or two to round things out. Would have been an imperfect roster, but a big part of the appeal of college basketball to me is it's imperfection.

I'd add that I am sure I will enjoy watching Mack play; always have. And I understand why he transferred - I went to the March G'Town / Providence game which was Senior day for the Hoyas, and if there were 500 people in the crowd when they brought the seniors out, I'd be surprised. Nobody wants to play big time college hoops in a comically unfilled arena every home game. Don't fault him at all- I'd want to get out myself. But this mercenary NIL world is a giant Borg that is swallowing everything up and I don't like it at all. Need to have some rules in place real soon.
